Drama Students Take First Place at One-Act Competition

Congratulations to Bosque School’s very own Thespian Troupe 7148 for turning out some fantastic performances at the New Mexico Activities Association One-Act Production Competition which took place in Farmington last weekend! Twenty-seven Bosque School Thespians competed in the competition, along with students from 20 other schools. They were awarded first place for their one-act, "Call Me Stan," directed by first-time director, Tate ‘23, and managed by first-time stage manager, Lily ‘25. The production, which was first performed here at Bosque School back in October, starred Mateo ‘23, Adeline ‘23, Kaitlin ‘23, and Kiara ‘25. In addition to winning first place for the one-act, several Bosque School students qualified for nationals: Ma’ayan ‘25, Lily ‘25, Mia B. ‘25, Hazel ‘25, Kaitlin K. ‘23, and Ochs ‘23.

Meghan Bode, drama director, explained how the troupe went about selecting which one-act they would take to competition. “We performed our student-directed one-acts here, and voted to take 'Call Me Stan' to competition,” she said. “The other student-directed one-acts were '4 A.M.', directed by CJ ‘26, and 'The Waiting Room,' directed by Hazel ‘25—both also new directors. Thespian Troupe 7148 is acting as a student-run production company for our one-act season; so, directors had to pitch their show ideas to the whole troupe, who then went through a selection process and supported the productions as they went along.”

Ms. Bode went on to say, “We made new friends and learned a lot, and our group did an amazing job of representing Bosque School as a hardworking, supportive, enthusiastic group of theatre artists. We look forward to growing our student-directed season and love this opportunity for new performers to get on stage with seasoned Thespians.”

Great job, Bobcats!
