Spring Sports Coming to an End

MIDDLE SCHOOL
Golf: Middle school golf has a super team of three players: Aiden ‘27, Andrés ‘27, and Dain ‘26. Our “Three Musketeers” have shown much improvement from the previous season. We have competed in two tournaments so far with Andrés placing 2nd this past weekend at UNM North.  Our team has two more tournaments left in the season, Ladera and Arroyo Del Oso. Here’s to a strong Bobcat finish!

Track: The spring season for middle school track is coming to an end, and the last six weeks have flown by! The team is having a great time at practice and even more fun testing their abilities at their weekly meets. Our amazing team of over 30 student-athletes has improved so much in such a short amount of time. These Bobcats are fierce and have been holding their own against some strong competitors all season long. We will complete our season with the final meet held on May 9, where we will be competing against Academy, Hope, Sandia Prep, St. Mary’s, Menaul, and others. We look forward to pushing ourselves to achieve our best and having a great time competing with our team! We’ve seen so many new personal records set each week by all of these dedicated athletes—here are just a few from our most recent meets:

Owen ‘26, 74.085 discus and 35.25 in shot put
Audrey ‘28, 1600m in 6:16, 100m hurdles 21.5, and long jump 11.04

UPPER SCHOOL
Baseball: Bosque School’s baseball season has paved an enthusiastic trail through high winds and a beating sun. Our players have formed a tight bond in a very short time, and everyone has shown grit and courage with the ability to play many positions on the field. Cole '24 continues to be a leader and starting pitcher, Lance '22 is our amazing senior defensive boss at 1st base and a power threat with the bat. Nathan C. '24 makes an impact every day as both a power hitter and an anchor behind the plate. With six new players who have never played the game of baseball, we are having the best time learning, playing, and just being together. One of the many highlights of our season was beating Sandia Prep 4-3 on their home field! All good things must come to an end with our last game at Pojoaque. This young team has excelled throughout the spring, and we can’t wait for next season to begin.

Golf: Our upper school golfers have competed in four tournaments. They head into the district tournament this coming Monday and the state tournament the following week. We have three seniors, Lauren, Carter, and Santiago. Lauren has placed in the top ten in all four tournaments and is ready to shoot well in both district and state. Carter and Santiago have shown improvement every week and look to have breakthrough rounds in the district tournament. In addition, we have two eighth graders, Angelo and Roland, who both have had excellent starts competing in high school golf. Roland shows his talent and is gaining valuable experience competing against higher-level golfers that will help him compete at that level as he advances. Angelo’s unique talent, hard work, and love for the game of golf have really shown this season. He has placed in the top five in three out of the four events Bosque has competed in. His game has been noticed on the golf course and will be fun to watch at district and state.

Lacrosse: Our girls lacrosse team has had an eventful spring! The team welcomed five new players to the team—none of whom had ever picked up a lacrosse stick before the season began. The progress these newbies have made over the short season has been tremendous. The team recently traveled via the newly-wrapped Bosque School bus to Santa Fe Prep for a couple of games where this progress was evident and new and returning players were able to showcase their skills in both the offense and defense ends. The other highlight of the season was the New Mexico area Bosque School Invitational which saw teams play in round-robin games traveling to Weber field from Santa Fe Prep, Durango High School, Los Alamos, and the Albuquerque Duke City Scorpions. It has been a great spring, and we are already looking forward to next year!

Tennis: It has been a fantastic season for the Bobcat’s varsity tennis teams with a new strength and conditioning program to supplement practices. We have challenged every player to be their best physical selves and work on their mental game. The boys tennis team ended the regular season on a high with a tough 5-4 victory over Sandia Prep to finish 3rd in the district. The girls, for the first time in several years, had a full team with their best victory against Valley High School. It was an excellent display of prowess, winning 9-0. This past week was the APS metro tournament where the Bobcats put up some impressive results with our best play coming from Max ‘23 in the boys singles who made it to the third round as did girls doubles pair Drolma ‘24 and Sammy ‘24. This week, we turn our focus to the district tournament where we will try to make a run at playing in the state championships. Thank you to our incredibly hard-working players, families, and community for all your support!

Track and Field: The upper school track and field team has had a fantastic spring competing in four track and field meets all over New Mexico. These include the Zimmerly Relays in Socorro, the Mike Pecos Invitational in Bernalillo, the Mark Shumate Invitational in Rio Rancho, and the Capital City Invitational in Santa Fe.

Throughout the year, there have been many highlights, including personal records (PRs) and season bests (SBs) by 21 of our 22 team members. Those PRs and SBs include those listed below:

Up next for our track and field Bobcats is the District 5-3A meet held at Sandia Prep on April 30. After that, those who qualify for state will compete in the 3A state meet held at UNM on May 6 and 7.

Co-ed Volleyball: Our new team launched for the first time this spring. Although we were hoping to have a chance to compete with other schools, no other school joined us in this adventure. Even so, we have 25 enthusiastic students at each practice, and the skill level in the gym is progressing each week. It is great to see the steady increase in volleyball IQ and enjoyment of the game. We will wrap up on April 27 with a fun intersquad tournament that everyone is looking forward to! Thank you, Bosque School Athletics Department, for adding this exciting new sport!

GO, BOBCATS!
