Battle of the Books

As the cold weather approaches and we begin to move our lives indoors, it is the ideal time to curl up with an intriguing book! This year our library coordinator, Ms. LaZar, is making reading even more exciting by bringing the Battle of the Books New Mexico to Bosque School.

America’s Battle of the Books is a nationally recognized incentive program that encourages students in grades 3-12 to read from a preselected list of books and then compete against other Battle of the Books teams in their region. Our own middle school Bosque School Battle of the Books club, which just launched last week, is a great opportunity for middle school students to come together to discuss some great books and enjoy the company of fellow book lovers.

This year’s Battle of the Books NM will take place on April 30, 2022 with virtual competitions in Las Cruces and Rio Rancho. In preparation for April’s competition, the Bosque School team will read, read, and read from a selection of twenty books chosen for the 2022 competition. They will also participate in discussions about the books, formulate sample battle questions, and during the second semester, team members will even compete in some lively mock battles.

The Battle of the Books club meets during advisory on Fun Friday, and starting soon, they will meet on Tuesdays during lunch as well. Participants on our school team must read a minimum of ten of the twenty books on the 2021-2022 NM Battle of the Book list in order to compete in the battle. Middle school students who are interested in reading the books and joining the team should check in with Ms. LaZar for more information.
