Summer Reading Assignments (& Why They’re Important)

"Books can be the tethers to connect human beings," Jason Reynolds, recently named by the Library of Congress as National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, says in a video commemorating his new role. "They are tools we use to ground us in our humanity, to convince us we're not actually all that different, and the things that are different should be celebrated because they are what makes this tapestry of life."

Summer is a time to enjoy and appreciate the longer days and also a time to enjoy the often more unstructured time to read. Here at Bosque, we expect students to read over the summer, and our summer reading lists promote and support reading for pleasure and provide a springboard for reflection in the fall. You will notice a balance of “choice books” and a “common text” as different courses/grade levels approach building our reading and thinking community.

Your summer reading assignments are ready to order. We have worked with Bookworks, a local Albuquerque bookstore, to compile the reading list assigned to each grade level. We know the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted their business, and we hope to support them in continuing this local relationship. Bookworks has always donated a portion of the proceeds back to Bosque School.

Please place your order based on the grade level your child will be entering for the 2021-2022 school year. Some upper school grade levels require more than one book.

Bookworks offers free media mail shipping on all orders (please allow 7-10 days for shipping). Use code FREESHIP in the coupon code at checkout. Faster shipping options are also available, or you may choose "in-store pickup." For in-store pickup, Bookworks will email you when your order is ready to be picked up at the store.

If you choose to use an outside vendor such as Amazon, please consider signing up for Amazon Smile and designating Bosque School as your charity of choice. Bosque School will receive a portion of the proceeds from each purchase you make.
