Last week, Larry Willard, one of Bosque School’s earliest cheerleaders and most notable philanthropists, passed away at the age of 78. While I unfortunately never had the chance to meet Larry, I was honored to share the significant influence he had on Bosque School and education in his obituary in the Albuquerque Journal
. Despite having no direct connection to our school through children or grandchildren, Larry saw and championed the value of Bosque School’s vision and its goal to provide access to an outstanding education to children in Albuquerque.
Larry is one of the thousands of philanthropists who have influenced the success of Bosque School over the past 26 years. Merriam Webster
defines a philanthropist as “one who makes an active effort to promote human welfare.” By this definition, Bosque School’s staffulty would be our most significant philanthropists—devoting their heart and soul to their students’ growth and development each day. Philanthropy comes in many forms—from sharing one’s time, talents, or treasure—and Bosque School would not be the school it is today without the dedication of our supporters and community members. For each of you, I am so grateful.
Last week, I had the pleasure of having lunch with Dr. Peggie Ann Findlay, Bosque School’s visionary founder, and some of our most significant philanthropists—Michael Hauger, our longest-tenured trustee (and parent to Alex ‘07); Dana Asbury, former board chair (and parent to Alexandra ‘03 and Kate ‘05); and Lynn Trojahn, our longest-tenured Director of Development (and parent to Rachel ‘07, current trustee). The four of us met to discuss Bosque School’s first-ever Founder’s Days celebration
to be held virtually on May 6 and 7. This two-day event will provide dynamic, exciting, and engaging ways to recultivate and connect our community, past and present. Alumni, parents and guardians, grandparents and grandfriends, staffulty, trustees, supporters, and friends are warmly welcomed to come together in celebration of our community, our school, and to honor the vision of Bosque School’s founder, Dr. Findlay.
I am so looking forward to sharing Founder’s Days with you and celebrating our founder and the thousands of philanthropists like Larry Willard, Michael Hauger, Dana Asbury, Lynn Trojahn, staffulty, parents, guardians, alumni, grandparents and grandfriends, and community partners who have devoted their gifts of time, talents, and treasure to Bosque School. I can’t wait to honor our past, celebrate our present, and embrace our future together.
All the best,
Jessie Barrie, PhD
