Jazz Trio Performs in Honor Concert

Last Friday, the Bosque Jazz Trio—composed of Jonah ‘21, Evan ‘21, and Leo ‘24—was the only school jazz band chosen to perform during the All-State Music Festival, as part of the New Mexico Music Educators Association (NMMEA) Honor Concert Series.
"This performance is the greatest statewide honor a group can receive,” said Mr. Morales, Bosque School Band Director. “I am unbelievably proud of the work they have put in, both in being nominated and in the performance itself."
The group spent weeks preparing for the performance, with trio members practicing both independently and socially-distanced as a group. The concert aired virtually over Zoom and many of our community members were able to tune in to watch our talented musicians perform.
“It is an amazing feeling to be recognized as the top jazz group in the state,” said senior Jazz Trio member, Jonah. Evan, also a senior, shared that he was proud to represent Bosque School in such a positive way.
The two seniors have been involved in music since starting Bosque School in 6th grade. “Bosque wouldn't be the same for me without music,” expressed Evan. “Starting in the Jazz Band with Mr. Fessinger in 6th grade, playing bass clarinet in Wind Ensemble, singing in Cantate...these have all been an integral part of me growing up, and I have to thank Mr. Fessinger, Mr. Morales, Ms. Hart, and Mr. Boring for their help with that.”
Jonah echoed a similar sentiment. “Music has been the most important part of my time at Bosque,” he shared. “I have had so many amazing opportunities and learned so much from Mr. Morales and Mr. Fessinger.”
While the two seniors haven’t finalized their post-graduation plans, they are both certain that their futures will involve playing music. No matter what college Evan ends up going to, he knows he wants to pursue a bachelor’s degree in music, and hopes to study both jazz and popular styles across a variety of instruments.
Regardless of what the future holds for our senior Jazz Trio members, it has been a pleasure hearing them perform over the years. Dr. Barrie, Head of School, expressed, “Our Jazz Trio has taken the creativity and performing skills learned at Bosque and beyond, and developed a magical musical connection with each other. The maturity and scope of their talent is jaw-dropping,” She continued, “We are all deeply proud of Evan, Jonah, and Leo.”
