Making an Impact During COVID-19

Last week, Bosque School community members came together to care for their fellow Albuquerqueans and help them better their health and wellness. At the Community Care Donation Drive, four buses were filled to the ceiling with donations and dispatched into the community.

Food, books, art supplies, and hygiene products were delivered to the Cesar Chavez Community School (CCCS) on Tuesday and the school’s families lined up at the front doors of CCCS on Wednesday to receive boxes and bags of items. The art supplies were an especially big hit. One bus was sent to Locker #505, a local student-focused clothing bank, filled with bags and boxes of clothes, shoes, and stuffed animals.

Additionally, nearly 170 handmade face masks and 40 disposable respirator N95 masks were donated at the drive. Bosque School has partnered with Sunny Kirkby who has organized the group MaskCoversDriveNM 2020 to make sure our masks get distributed to people in need throughout the state.

Thank you to the 40+ volunteers including alumni, students, parents, teachers, community partners, and the families who contributed to our Community Care Donation Drive. And another huge thank you for participating in our other various Remote Project SERVE initiatives during this spring semester and time of COVID-19.

This video illustrates how we at Bosque School showed up in various ways to make a positive impact in our greater Albuquerque community and environment.

Continue engaging your head, hands, and heart through summertime service projects, whether it's delivering meals to neighbors, volunteering at Roadrunner Food Bank, writing blogs or recording podcasts as advocacy for an important issue, or sewing face masks. Through these projects, our Bosque School community can work together to help ensure that all people in Albuquerque—strangers, neighbors, family, everyone—have access to better health and wellness.
Service Learning Director, Anna Rutins, is always open to brainstorming ideas for summer service projects and discussing volunteering opportunities. Feel free to send her an email to set up time for a conversation. She would also love to receive photos of your summer service engagement for our Bosque School COVID-19 Journalistic Time Capsule.
