Energy Week at Bosque Raises Awareness

The B.E.E.P. (Bosque Energy Education Peeps) Energy STARS Club (Students Teaching About Resource Saving) sponsored our annual Energy Week to raise awareness and provide information and tips to reduce our personal and our school’s carbon footprint.

We kicked off the week with the electronics recycling drive. In just a few hours, people in the community dropped off a truckload of electronics that will now be processed and responsibly recycled.

Throughout the week, BEEP students shared facts and tips and resource-saving ideas during Morning Meetings, inviting students and adults to use less energy: unplug chargers when not in use, take shorter showers, turn off lights in empty rooms and spaces, change a lightbulb to CFL or LED, or watch less TV, for example.

On MOODY MONDAY we encouraged low or no lights in classrooms, work areas, and at home: if you need it, leave lights on, but if not, turn down the lights!

On NO-WASTE WEDNESDAY, Chris ’26, Brooklyn ’26, Maya ’26, and Maddie ’25 shared staggering facts about our paper use: Approximately 1 billion trees worth of paper are thrown away every year in the United States. Americans use 85 million TONS of paper a year, about 680 pounds per person. The average household throws away 13,000 separate pieces of paper each year. Most are packaging and junk mail. and a special shout-out and thank-you to the 6th grade recycling teams!

On THIRSTY THURSDAY, BEEP took the lead on using water wisely, while encouraging 20-second hand-washing and using suggested songs; the ABC’s joined other favorites like “Let it Go” and even the chorus from “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac and Lizzo’s chart-topping hair-tossing chorus!

Finally, on FOOTPRINT FRIDAY, we sent out reminders about how to “power down” for extended breaks.

And we challenge all of us to think about ways YOU can conserve. Thank you for doing YOUR part THIS week and every week.
