A quote I regularly think about this time of year comes from Albert Camus who stated, “In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer.” Winter is often the season of hibernation and all its accompanying behaviors. But not at Bosque! Our students have been on fire, displaying their Bobcat Best as performers, athletes, inventors, community contributors, etc. Here is a quick overview of what our students have accomplished in the last two weeks alone!
Over 100 actors, musicians, and technical theater crew members debuted the first three of six performances of Into the Woods. Many of these students participated in musical theater for the first time, leaning into healthy risk-taking, collaborating in a significant “community” of the arts, and showing months of commitment to get to opening night.
The State Vex Robotics Championship was held this past Saturday with over 43 middle and high school teams competing. The Boogie Bots 8th grade Robotics Team qualified for the World Championships in Louisville, KY, in April. Congratulations to Riley '24, JT '24, Abby '24. In addition, Rowan '24 earned 5th place overall and 5th in the Skills Challenge. He was also given the Excellence Award—the highest award that VEX can give. As a result of this award, he now moves on to the World Championship in Louisville, KY, in April. This will be his second year in a row attending!
After losing both regular season games to the Sandia Prep Sundevils, our boys’ varsity basketball team beat them in the District Championship game this past weekend! Eli '20 was named District Player of the Year. The team was featured on the front page of the Albuquerque Journal's Sports Section and plays in the first round of the State tournament this coming Saturday at 6 pm at Bosque.
While most students were sleeping in last Friday on a professional development day for staffulty, eight Bosque vocalists represented the school in the Metro Honor Choir.
Bosque’s Amnesty International service learning group spent an afternoon at Van Buren Middle School supporting and tutoring refugee students.
On Monday, the Women’s Advocacy Coalition (WAC) service learning group announced a "Hygiene Supply Drive" to provide women's hygiene products to our partner organization, Crossroads for Women.
The Jazz trio of juniors Evan, Mateo, and Jonah received a PERFECT SCORE at the UNM/ABQ Jazz Festival.
21 Mock Trial students went “to court,” with the varsity team maintaining their undefeated record. They will be advancing to the state competition on March 13 and 14.
Bobcats competed in the statewide Science Olympiad competitions earning a 1st place finish for one team and four other team medals.
Winter is not a time for hibernating at Bosque for our families either! I see you supporting your students in countless ways—from the long days dropping them off early and picking them up late for their various extracurriculars to cheering them on in all of their endeavors. You volunteer on campus. Many of you also partnered with us last weekend to bolster participation numbers in the Annual Fund through our Leap Day Challenge, which supports all of the student programs listed above!
Nothing can happen here without our amazing staffulty who continue to support students both in and out of the classroom. On top of all of the ways staffulty support the amazing initiatives and successes listed above, they also have been busy writing personal comments for each of their students to be shared in the upcoming report cards, putting together final preparations for the upcoming Winterim experiences, editing Senior Theses, and opening their classrooms to the ongoing stream of admission visitors.
I can’t wait to see what is to come as we transition into spring! Thank you for everything you do in support of making Bosque such a rich place for learning, for taking risks, and for creating such a strong community.
