Congratulations to Dayle ‘22 and Tahir ‘22 for earning 2nd place in their categories at the 2020 High Desert Thespian Theatre Festival!
The festival invites all sophomore, junior, and senior level thespians to participate in “Individual Events” that fall into several different acting and technical theatre categories. Students are able to become a thespian after their freshman year once they’ve attained 100 hours of theatre experience.
Tahir said he “decided to try his luck” at the Thespian Festival this year. Although it’s clear that his talent, and not his luck, was why he earned 2nd place in the Sound Design category. He compiled a sound queue list of all of the sounds in Into the Woods to present to the judges at the festival. He said it was a great learning experience presenting to the three judges, and he’s happy he participated.
“It was really fun for me,” said Dayle who entered her Into the Woods model into the Scenic Design category. “It was my first time ever doing it, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Winning something the first time felt pretty good.” She has been involved in Tech for the last two years and always enjoyed the scene design aspects of the class. She said when she learned about the festival competition, she thought, “Why not enter?”
“Dayle did a beautiful job,” said Technical Director, Mr. VeSeart. “It was a clean, crisp model with a really nice floorplan.” He added, “I love it when technical theatre students step up for the Thespian Festival. These two both stepped up.”
Dayle and Tahir are both planning on participating in next year’s Thespian Festival as well.
