Alexander '23: Dr. Martin D. Jenkins Scholar Award Winner

Alexander ‘23 recently won the 2019 Dr. Martin D. Jenkins Scholar Award. The award was named in honor of Dr. Jenkins, Father of Research on Gifted Black Students, and was created to recognize the achievements of highly gifted Black students who excel academically in school.

Award application reviewers were greatly impressed with Alexander and his evident enthusiasm for science and space exploration. One said, “Alexander demonstrates the hallmarks of a highly gifted scientific visionary. His passion for aerospace and aspirations toward NASA missions to Mars in the 2020s or 2030s and his desire to solve problems and generate solutions related to the missions are the types of vision needed to move humanity forward.”

Along with the award, Alexander also received a cash award and a scholarship to attend the Gifted Education Research & Resource Institute’s (GER2I) Summer Residential Program at Purdue University.
