Ella Cannedy '18 Found Philanthropy Through Her Sorority
Ella Cannedy ‘18 found her place at Texas Tech University when she joined Delta Gamma sorority on campus. Ella enjoys giving back to her community and found that Delta Gamma was a great match for her goals. Volunteer service is at the heart of Delta Gamma. The sorority’s main focus is called “Service for Sight.” Through this service, sorority members help individuals with visual impairments in the local community, as well as across the country.
“We have helped raise guide dogs and also go to elementary schools to teach children about visual impairments,” Ella explained.
Her sorority chapter at Texas Tech recently held a philanthropy event that raised over $7,000 to give to their causes. Collectively, her chapter has raised over $150,000 for their philanthropy. Ella disclosed, “I find my sorority a great way to continue giving back even after my time at Bosque as a Service Learning leader is over.”
In addition to her involvement in Delta Gamma, Ella is also a part of a group called “International Justice Mission,” an international non-profit organization focused on human rights and providing aid to those affected by slavery around the world.
She has also joined the club lacrosse team, regularly traveling to other colleges in Texas to compete.
Upon graduation, Ella hopes to work with wildlife and forestries. To help achieve this, she recently changed her major to Natural Resource Management.
