The Sofia Center for Professional Development at Bosque School is excited to announce the dates of its three 2019–2020 public program offerings: our signature Reflect : Innovate : Act series, a new Compassion Cultivation Training© course, and our annual Wild Leadership Retreat for education leaders.
Reflect : Innovate : Act is a series of monthly seminars and workshops open to educators throughout the community. These events encourage professional inquiry and shared expertise, while also offering rich content, inspiration, and an aesthetic experience that honors the passion and hard work of educators. Each month we investigate a different topic or issue, and sessions are led by the Sofia Center Director and educators from across the community. The first Reflect : Innovate : Act of this school year will be held on September 19 with our annual exploration of the topic, “The Pedagogy of Love.” The Sofia is looking forward to once again welcoming participants from a wide range of schools and organizations, including public, charter, and private schools, pre-K through university level. Since launching Reflect : Innovate : Act in January 2013, we have welcomed educators from over 250 schools and organizations.
The Sofia Center is thrilled to be collaborating this fall with Bosque’s Head of Upper School, Dr. Thomas Spree MacDonald, in offering a new eight-week course for educators, September 17–November 5, 2019. Educators from across the community are invited to join us for Compassion Cultivation Training
© (CCT™), a course developed at Stanford University School of Medicine by a team of contemplative scholars, clinical psychologists, and researchers. CCT is designed to develop the qualities of compassion and kindness for oneself and for others, and Dr. MacDonald and the Sofia Center have tailored the course to have a focus on helping educators sustain themselves in and out of the classroom. Details and registration info here.
Finally, the Sofia Center calls all education leaders to save the date! The Sofia Center’s 6th Annual Wild Leadership Retreat will be held April 23–25, 2020, at the beautiful Bosque Retreat Center. More details will be announced October 2019.
The Sofia Center’s public programs are designed to bring together educators from diverse schools and organizations for collegial, dynamic, and aesthetic shared learning. From the importance of play to the role of wonder, from design thinking to place-conscious education, topics and themes are chosen to offer intellectual challenge, invite reflection, and inspire individual and organizational shifts in practice.
