Devon Baird '16 Talks Photography, Videography, and Soccer
It was in his senior year of high school that Devon Baird, Class of 2016, first became interested in photography and videography. But what started as an interest has turned into something he loves and continues to enjoy, with plans to pursue this field as a career after graduation, if not before. In fact, he’s adjusting his college major at Fort Lewis College to better prepare him for that future. “I am actually changing my major to marketing and minoring in accounting (from business administration),” he said. “I am focusing on these so that I will be prepped to run my own business in the future.”
Two-and-a-half years into college, Devon has his sights squarely on his goal of opening a photography and videography business when he graduates. He said he’s made many videos about New Mexico and Durango, as well as about the Skyhawks soccer team travels. The Skyhawks are his other passion.
“Playing collegiate soccer for the Skyhawks has been one of the best experiences of my life,” he said. I have had a rough time playing due to injury…(but) I just got cleared (in January) to play again and have had a great time getting back into training.”
Last year Devon tore his meniscus twice but credited his teammates for their support as he was allowed to continue to travel with the team while he healed. “My team was very supportive,” he said.
Devon recently made the Dean’s List for the first time, which requires a student G.P.A. of 3.6 or better and no fewer than 15 credit hours of graded college level work for the semester. He said he was glad to contribute his G.P.A. for the betterment of his team. “I am glad that I can help bring up the team G.P.A. as well as prove to myself that I am capable of excelling in college,” he said, “even though I may not enjoy everything I’m having to learn.”
Devon Baird is a junior at Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO. He’s majoring in marketing with an accounting minor and plans to open a photography and videography business after graduation, or sooner.
