7th Grade Author's Celebrations

Students in Sean Etigson’s English classes presented historical fiction pieces that they researched and wrote themselves. Students picked a historical period, figure, or event, researched their selection, then decided upon a format to present their findings. The pieces presented by students ranged from poems, videos, and plays to short stories and picture books, and even a 40s-style newscast. Students also varied the perspective from which their works were told. Some took a first-person perspective, others a third-person. There was even one, “The Shot Heard Round the World” retold from the perspective of the “revolutionary squirrel.” The projects are part of author celebrations the classes have at the end of every semester.
