Staffulty Highlight: Meet Mishan Montgomery
  • Staffulty Highlight

Name: Mishan Montgomery,

Outside of school, how do you like to spend your free time? Any hobbies or interests you'd like to share?

I find balance by traveling to connect with my family, who live in various corners of the country. I'm happiest when I'm outdoors, whether I'm going for a bike ride, soaking in the Santa Fe hot springs, or enjoying a concert.

Share a brief overview of your educational and professional journey that led you to Bosque School.

My journey in education began during my senior year of high school through a dual enrollment program. This early immersion in higher education laid the foundation for my professional career, which launched at Chaminade College Preparatory in the San Fernando Valley. There, I had the privilege of serving in a variety of key roles, including Assistant to the Principal, Registrar, Director of Admissions, and Dean. Bringing this diverse experience to Bosque School feels like a natural culmination of my path, truly bringing my journey full circle.

Do you have any pets?

I recently had to say goodbye to my beloved Shih Tzu, Lil Mama. After taking some time to heal, I was ready to open my heart and home again to a new pup. Stop by and say hello to Berkeley! The newest addition to our family. Berkeley, also known as Shadow, is an adorable and shy 10-month-old Cocker Spaniel puppy.

What's one of your favorite memories or moments from your time at Bosque School so far?

My favorite moment was receiving the news that I was hired. The sense of pure excitement and honor, knowing I was about to join the Bosque School staffulty, is a memory I hold onto!

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or activities outside of teaching? How do they tie into your role at Bosque School?

Outside of my role at Bosque School, I am actively involved with Rise Basketball School, a program founded by my eldest son, Jules. At Rise, we use basketball as a tool to teach our players valuable life lessons, both on and off the court. This experience directly aligns with my work at Bosque, as both organizations are dedicated to creating diverse, equitable, and inclusive environments where individuals can thrive. The Rise mottos, created by my mother — "I Will Rise" and "Work It Out" — are philosophies that encourage perseverance and problem-solving in the face of any challenge.

Do you have a funny or moving anecdote about Bosque School?

My funny Bosque moment happened during my first week. I decided to clean out my new office, thinking it was just an old storage space, and threw out some items I assumed didn't belong to anyone. I was horrified to learn it was actually a staffulty member’s collection of Mock Trial memorabilia! I was absolutely mortified, but then another staffulty member totally saved me; she actually tracked down the items and got them back. Everyone was completely kind and gracious about the mishap.
