Bosque College Counselors Featured by ACCIS

The Association of College Counselors in Independent Schools (ACCIS) recently featured Bosque School’s Mark Giesmann, director of college counseling, and Joanna Hart, college counselor and dean of students.

At Bosque, Mr. Giesmann and Ms. Hart work closely with every student, collaborating on everything from building balanced college lists to essay development and recommendation writing. They begin getting to know students as early as 9th grade, and this support continues through a dedicated college counseling curriculum and individualized guidance during students’ junior and senior years. Together, they help each student find a thoughtful college match.

Below is the interview that Mr. Giesmann provided to ACCIS, as published in their newsletter, "The ACCIS Brief," on April 8, 2026.

Q: What new(ish) office initiative are you most proud of?

A: With Joanna's addition to the college counseling team last year, we decided to work more as a team. Rather than divide our caseload, Joanna and I have chosen to meet with each junior family together to demonstrate that each Bosque student has a team of college counselors supporting them through the process. Joanna and I are able to play off each other's strengths to ensure that each Bosque family receives the best college counseling experience.

Q: What long-time office feature are you most proud of?

A: We continue to meet individually with every student in the upper school to discuss course selection. We love having the opportunity to build relationships with younger students, and think a college counseling lens is important for all students as they pick out their classes for the coming year.

Q: How do you keep each other motivated?

A: We understand the importance of bonding outside of the office. You can frequently find us together cheering on our Bosque Bobcats at a volleyball or basketball game.

Q: You’re ordering lunch for the office—what are you getting?

A: Both Midwestern transplants to Albuquerque, we have fallen in love with traditional New Mexican cuisine. Enchiladas from Sadie's is an obvious choice. The only question relates to the chile: red, green, or Christmas?

Q: What else should we know about your community?

A: Bosque School is a dog-friendly campus. Denver and Diego (pictured) are the official college counseling assistants!
