Grandparents Help Begin New
Bosque School Tradition
Bosque’s
first grandparent day brought an amazing turnout of over 180 Middle
School grandparents who went Back to School on November 20th for a
morning of entertainment, education and conversation. The middle school
choir, drama, jazz band, and string ensemble, and the upper school
Cantate and jazz group Dialect entertained during breakfast. After the
performances they joined their grandchildren in class and the morning
concluded with tours of the campus.
The weather was beautiful and the turnout was inspiring. Next year the
upper school Grandparents will be invited to take part in this annual
event which will always take place on the Tuesday of Thanksgiving week.
Mark your calendar and plan your travel to be
part of Grandparent Day 2008, Tuesday, November 25th.
Discussions begin to form Bosque Grandparent
Association
Shortly after Grandparent Day, Bob Plane, former President of Clarkson
University and retired President of Wells College, and his wife Mary,
grandparents of a Bosque 6th grader (G’14), stepped forward with a bold
plan to harness the spirit and energy of our first Grandparent Day.
They along with Bob and Zane Taichert G’14; Sally McGrath G’05, G’07,
G’08; Richard & Celia Ransom G’14 and Anne Taylor G’13 met on January
15th to discuss the concept of forming a Bosque Grandparent Association.
The main thrust of the conversation focused on ways for Grandparents to
get involved at Bosque. It was decided that a larger meeting is needed to
get input from a broader representation of grandparents.
The group invites all grandparents to attend
the “Grandparent Coffee” on Thursday, March 6. Preliminary
agenda items include: volunteerism at Bosque, Headmaster’s update, and
discussion of creating a Bosque Grandparent Association.
Challenging All Grandparents
In his Grandparent Day remarks, Andrew Wooden, Head of School, spoke
passionately about the future and the need for more upper school teaching
and learning space. “We will start design immediately and if the campaign
is successful — and about that I worry — we will break ground within the
year. That schedule is incredibly daunting—but we have never before
backed down from a challenge; let’s not now!”
Just before the holiday break he had a lovely conversation with a
grandparent who has challenged the Bosque Grandparent body to step up and
support this effort. While wishing to be anonymous, she will match gifts
made by Bosque Grandparents to the new building up to $100,000. Both
outright gifts and pledges, payable up to five years, will count but must
be made or pledged by May 1, 2008. A gift of $10,000 towards the
challenge has been received to kick off the effort!
Please consider helping to meet the challenge by making your commitment
to the new Upper School House which will provide much needed academic and
leisure space for students for years to come. For more information
