Bosque values art education as integral
to human education. By exploring the art forms of many cultures, the
art curriculum develops technical skills, conceptual thought, personal
growth, and new ways of seeing. Our standards incorporate and allow
for ingenuity, and we highly value innovation. The importance
of play is never forgotten. Students visit local artists' studios,
galleries, and museums and learn of local art activities to familiarize
them with their own community's involvement in the arts. All student
work is displayed within the school as well as in the larger community.
Performing arts play an important role in shaping the learning experiences
of all middle and upper school students at Bosque School. Rather than
being classified as extracurricular, performing arts activities are
treated as core subjects, and all students participate.
students enroll in
band, chorus, drama or technical theater. Through their participation, they learn
the techniques and skills necessary for their chosen art form. They
also learn many important life skills - how to work effectively
in groups, how to share responsibility for attaining goals, and
how to express thoughts and emotions through performance.
students are required
to participate for the equivalent of two years in the fine and performing
arts. Students can satisfy this requirement both during the school
day and through afternoon offerings in theater, music, and studio
art.
