2007-2008
The Bosque School Annual Fund is the yearly appeal for donations to
support the current operations of the school. While tuition covers
nearly 95% of the costs to educate a student, it is the annual giving
that makes up for the extra 5%. The Board of Trustees and the
administration are committed to keeping the tuition costs down and
working to grow the annual giving to cover the additional costs
associated with educating each student. Annual Giving dollars bridge the
gap between tuition income and operating expenses.
Operating expenses include teachers’ salaries and professional
development, educational materials (equipment, supplies, and technology),
the Bosque Ecosystem Monitoring Program (BEMP), the financial aid
program, and facilities/maintenance. A small portion of the operating
budget is also made up by the school’s young
endowment income. As you
know operating expenses continue to rise each year, thus increasing the
need to build a stronger annual giving program.
Another important aspect of the program is reporting to foundations to
receive grants for the school. Many foundations evaluate the commitment
level of our constituencies based on the annual giving records.
Participation by every parent, grandparent, alumni, faculty/staff, and
our friends in the community is as important as the amount of the gift.
Any size gift will make a difference and boost participation levels to
garner more foundation money for the school.
Why doesn’t Bosque School just raise
tuition to cover these extra expenses?
-
To
ensure that a Bosque School education is accessible to a diverse
population.
-
Encourage more socio-economic diversity through financial aid programs.
The annual fund contributed $150,000 towards the financial aid
disbursement in the 07-08 school year.
-
More
tax benefits for families. All gifts to the Annual Fund are tax
deductible, tuition payments are not.
Why
can’t Bosque lower the operating budget to reduce the revenue shortfall?
The largest
portion of the operating budget is salaries, benefits, and professional
development, approximately 67%. To maintain and recruit exemplary
faculty, Bosque School must be able to compete at the local and national
level with other educational institutions. Other significant costs along
with financial aid include the maintenance of the School’s physical plant
and grounds.
Who
Gives to the Annual Fund?
In the
2006-2007 school year, the community contributed $281,105 towards the
annual fund. The giving was broken down by these constituencies:
